Williams Livery Review

Williams unveils its new bold look as well as a new era under the Dorilton Capital name.

With yet another blue car on the field, it seems F1 is set to have another “bluemageddon” however this Williams does differ itself.

Williams has gone for a complete overhaul, ditching the lighter blue for a darker and glossier colour. It then adds red splashes on the front wing, sidepods and airbox.

I have to say on first impressions the car itself looks different compared to the rest with a bigger airbox and funkier sidepods.

But the livery? I’m not a fan. It’s not bad but I think last years livery especially with the gold looked better.

Maybe if they changed the red to the Rothmans gold of the 1990s it would look better. Because red is Ferraris colour anyway.

But maybe my mind will change when I see it on the track in Bahrain.

Will Williams move up the grid continue?

The last time there was a big regulation change in 2014, Williams has a resurgence and were fairly completive beating Ferrari and finishing in 3rd in 2014 and 2015.

However, with that said Jost Capito suggests it may be sometime before we see Williams on the top step of the podium.

“To get the team back to where we want to be, from where it was, is a long way -It’s not something we can fix in one year” Capito said.

But with the rule changes, anything can happen. However, I’m sure Williams will score more points than they did last season.

Alpha Tauri Livery Review

This team has come a long way since being Red Bull’s junior team, now a sister team, Alpha Tauri is on its way to the front.

Being an F1 fan is very much like being in a relationship. You have a great time in the spring and summer, then when the colder months come in you tend to argue a bit more and have a short fuse.

But then slowly as we come out of the winter months it gets good again.

This clearly is why Alpha Tauri opted for a Valentine’s day launch, Obviously.

Despite some technical hiccups in the presentation and a leak of the livery on Sunday night (13th), Alpha Tauri presented us with a car that looked exceptionally good.

Every year it seems the team from Faenza come up with a better livery, this year is no different. They have swapped the colours round to give it a Renault F1 2018 look. When the car looked black from the front and yellow from the side.

It just looks fast. Sometimes when the car looks fast, it is. Number one driver Pierre Gasly will be hoping it is fast as last year he managed to score in 15 out of the 22 races

“I think it looks great and I am very excited to get this new season started.”  Pierre Gasly said during the unveiling.

Will Alpha Tauri be a surprise in 2022?

Alpha Tauri has all the ingredients to become a regular high point scoring team, especially now due to a closer partnership with sister team Red Bull.

So I think on their day they will be very quick and with Gasly already proving the team can deliver podiums and wins under pressure I have no doubt they will succeed.

Yuki Tsunoda just needs that little bit more confidence as he surely has the speed to become a better driver this season.

McLaren Livery Review

Mclaren’s 2022 car is a thing of beauty. They somehow use the papaya and blue to perfection every year since 2019 and it just works.

A big show was happening in Woking last night, as Mclaren announced, not just its F1 car but its array of racing endeavours.

From the likes of Indy Car, Extreme E and McLaren shadow.

Although McLaren’s other racing endeavours are extremely exciting if you’re a McLaren fan. Let’s talk about the main event.

The MCL-36 is slightly different to last years car if we are talking in livery terms. There is far more black this year and the shades of papaya and blue have also changed.

The blue numbers may be the only thing I dislike as the rest of the car look sublime.

The new livery gives Mclaren a chance to express its newfound, fun-loving identity across all its motorsport programmes.

Similar to that of Ferrari with Red or Aston Martin with British racing green.

Now all the cars in McLarens line up match, and for someone with OCD, it’s nice.

How does McLaren’s 2022 season look?

With McLaren losing out to Ferrari for 3rd place last season Mclaren will be hoping to reclaim that spot, or better.

Although last year they did claim their first win since 2012 with Daniel Riccardo at Monza. But Daniel Riccardo himself will be hoping for a better season with much of 2021 being a learning curve.

Lando Norris will also hope for better, even though he outshone teammate Riccardo he was incredibly close to a maiden win in Russia. Revenge for Russia is for sure what it is Norris’ mind.

Aston Martin Livery Review

Aston Martin unleashes its 2022 challenger in a beautiful and iconic British racing green.

Finally, our first look at a proper 2022 car. I have to say that the Aston may be the best looking car yet?

Aston Martin launched their 2022 car on the 10th of February in a laser filled launch at the Aston Martin headquarters in Gaydon.

Many were in attendance, none other than CEO of Aston Martin, Lawrence Stroll himself, who is planning for world championship glory as part of a “5-year plan”

The car itself has a slightly different tint of British racing green this season and looks amazing under the lights of the Aston Martin showroom. Also without the sponsorship of BWT, the car has reverted to Aston Martins original racing lime green accents.

But what was different to this launch prior to the others, was the fact that this was a real-life 2022 car, not just photos or a 2022 model, the living breathing machine.

What is most striking is the “shark-gill” slits on top of the side pods. This could be for an aerodynamic advantage or a cooling one, but it is yet to be seen.

As seen in the AMR 22’s shakedown at Silverstone yesterday, the front wings are a lot higher up than the last iteration of F1 car, as well as the larger, new 18-inch Pirelli tires.

So does Aston have a chance?

It’s incredibly difficult to say who is going to be quicker this year. With so many teams finding new and different solutions to the same problem, we will have to see which team’s solution has worked.

All in all Aston Martin will be hoping for a much better year than in 2021, with most fans hoping for a Sebastian Vettel resurgence.

Red Bull Livery Review

The Bulls are back.

Our first look at the 2022 car in the flesh!

Well yes and no. Yet again fans of F1 have been tricked as Red Bull 2022 car may not be what you think.

Red Bull announced the car, named the RB18, on Wednesday the 9th of February. Team boss Christian Horner and drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were in attendance at the reveal event at the Red Bull headquarters in Milton Keynes.

The livery itself was identical to the last few iterations of Red Bull cars, however, Red Bull had gained themselves a new title sponsor.

Oracle had been a sponsor of Red Bull since 2021 but now have been upgraded to title sponsor this season, in a deal rumoured to be worth $500 Billion. Wow.

Red Bull are racking it in.

But in terms of the car itself, Red Bull is being rather coy. Looking at the reveal the car is a liveried version of the 2022 show car.

With parts of the car such as the front and rear wings being “plain”.

The livery overall is nice, seeming that the Red Bull livery is slowly becoming a modern classic. As it transcends different eras and cars from 2016 to 2022 yet it still looks striking.

Red Bulls iconic livery has been around since 2016

But how will Red Bull fair this season?

I think it’s clear from Max Verstappen that he wants the title again as he doesn’t want to see the number 33 in F1 again. Which is fantastic fighting talk.

Red Bull also want both titles this year, instead of just the driver’s championship.

But I think it’s too early to tell. I’d imagine Red Bull will be up there with Mercedes, with hopefully some other teams.

Haas F1 Livery Review

New year, new me right? Not for Haas.

Except for the obvious that the modelled (not 2022 car sadly) car is a carbon copy of last year’s livery.

I’m sorry to say that the Haas livery of last year was abysmal. But  I thought it would grow on me, like the Williams. But it was still dull and unexciting.

I was expecting a change. Obviously with the same colours as the main sponsor, Uralkali, which is a potash fertiliser manufacturer. Owned by Nikita Mazepin’s dad. But the livery is the exact same.

You could argue liveries like Red Bull are the same every year, with minimal change. But at least it looks good, right?

But who knows it could look better on track in the fight with the midfield like Haas are hoping for.

Team Principal Guenther Steiner was hopeful of progress in 2022 “Last season was a long one but I’m confident that 2022 will see us back in the mix with the VF-22.”

The team retained the line-up of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin who hope for a points-scoring season.

Personally, I’m betting for a Haas podium…
